Invisible orthodontics

< Back to Treatments

In our clinic we also offer transparent, digital orthodontics. This consists of trays, called aligners which are practically invisible and they are changed for a new set approximately every two weeks. Each aligner is made specifically for your teeth and has a new position which realigns the teeth.

Once the orthodontist has designed the process, the computer devises the future position of the patient’s teeth, which serves as a model for producing the corrective device. Moreover, this has the advantage of being able to simulate all the treatment in advance so that the patient knows beforehand how many aligners they will need to achieve the desired result and how long they will have to wear them.

They are comfortable, and can be taken out whenever required for daily cleaning and for eating, they do not cause sores or chaffing and adjust to the rhythm of life of the patient who has an active social life or with constant meetings and business trips.

Frequently asked questions

How long will the treatment take?

The duration of the treatment depends on the gravity of the case, on the type of appliance and on the collaboration of the patient. Although there are treatments which can last between 6 and 12 months, in the majority of cases it will be between 15 and 24 months.

Does it hurt to wear orthodontic appliances?

The fixing of the brackets by the orthodontist does not hurt but yes, there is some discomfort after the appliance has been fitted as a result of the movement of the brackets on the teeth and occasionally there are sores and chaffing on the lips and cheeks. These problems only happen the first few days after fitting by the orthodontist and if necessary they can be alleviated by the use of wax on the brackets which will minimise the rubbing and also by using a mouthwash of tepid salt water. If the problems persist we recommend the use of a normal analgesic.

What is the most suitable age to begin orthodontic treatment?

It is very important that children should visit an orthodontist between the age of six and eight. At this age the permanent teeth begin to come through and an orthodontic check can show if the growth and positioning of the teeth and jaw are correct. However, there is no age limit for carrying out orthodontic treatment. Years ago orthodontics was the domain of children . However, modern techniques have shown that adults can improve the position of their teeth with very satisfactory results.

How much is it going to cost me and how am I going to pay?

On the first visit we will inform you of the total price of your treatment. It will depend on the complexity of the case and the type of appliance used so every patient will have a different quotation. It is important to know that it is a fixed price quotation with everything included. It covers all the equipment used during the treatment including the final retainers, therefore there are no nasty surprises at the end. Moreover, in our clinic you will find many easy payment terms for orthodontic treatment; first visit free, very competitive prices and monthly instalments.

How often should I come for a check up?

Once the appliance has been fitted by the orthodontist you have to have regular appointments for progressive adjustments, checking of the condition of the appliance and checking the progress of the treatment. The length of the appointment is usually less than 30 minutes. It is a chance to raise any queries you might have.

¿Is special care needed when wearing an appliance?

You should eat correctly so as not to lose the bracket or tubes. With time the badly positioned teeth will assume a more normal position just by the act of eating. There are, however foods that should be avoided.

During orthodontic treatment it is very important to maintain good dental hygiene by brushing your teeth after every meal as well as using a mouthwash, floss or interdental brushes. Extra care should be taken as with the use of orthodontic appliances there are more crevices where food can become lodged.

There are complementary products which can reduce the impact of the appliances on the mucous membrane ranging from wax to silicone protectors, healing mouthwashes, gels etc.

Are extractions necessary?

We try not to have to carry out extractions; only when the difference in size of the teeth and the edge of the bone is such that we are unable to achieve the correct connection between the arches.

Throughout the treatment this action might have to be considered - normally the patient is advised of this possibility - if the other more conservative options fail.
